Edison font

Edison font is the result of type designer Hermann Zapf's wish to design a typeface with highest legibility for Digiset typesetting machine [a typesetter created by the German firm Dr. Ing Rudolf Hell GmbH in Kiel]. The lowercases of Edison are inflated as the result of the reading tests where the capital letters are minutely condensed. It is useful for 8 point size like newspapers appear more similar to 9.5 point. This engorged x-height of the lowercases is the effect of tests on newspaper pages with bad [gray] inking to find the main easy proportions & weight for the basic Roman. This typeface modified to the idea of getting information easily from the printed page. The strong strokes of this font can provide a feeling of a slab serif font & its vigorous forms make it flexible. It was released in 1978.
Designed 1978 by Hermann Zapf.
